Settings
This page covers every option under Settings — what it does and how to set it up. Text-to-speech is the one most people miss, so start there if you only read one section.
Text to Speech — set up a better voice
By default, Yadger uses your phone's built-in voice. You can add a higher-quality voice for your learning language.
On iPhone
- Open the iPhone Settings app (not Yadger).
- Go to Accessibility → Live Speech.
- Turn on Live Speech.
- Tap Add Preferred Voice.
- Select your learning language and download a voice.
Language Settings
Open Settings → Language settings to choose or configure the language you're learning. Supported languages include English, Russian, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Persian (Farsi).
Each language has its own set of engine options:
- Sound to text — which engine transcribes audio (e.g. OpenAI).
- Translation engine — which engine translates text (e.g. OpenAI).
- Spoken voice text / words / chat — which voice source is used (e.g. your phone's voice).
- Lesson AI — which engine generates lesson content (e.g. OpenAI).
- Complexity — a 1–10 slider (default 5) controlling how difficult generated content is; adjust with the − and + buttons.
Help — Getting Started
Settings → Help includes a built-in walkthrough:
- Choose your language — tap the deck name at the top to select or create a deck for the language you want to learn.
- Add cards — take a photo of text, record speech, or import a backup file to get words.
- Pick words — tap any detected word to add it as a card. The app translates it automatically.
- Solidify — practice your cards with Flip, Choose, or Match.
Backup: Export
Tap Export backup in Settings → Backup & Sync to export all your cards as a JSON backup. iOS shows the Share Sheet — you can save to Dropbox, iCloud Drive, email the file, or send it to another app.
Backup: Import
Tap Import backup in Settings → Backup & Sync to load cards from a backup file. The file picker shows iCloud Drive and your phone by default.
To also show Dropbox or OneDrive in the file picker:
- Open the Files app on iPhone.
- Tap Browse → ••• (top right) → Edit.
- Enable Dropbox and/or OneDrive.
They'll now appear every time you use the Import button.
